Need Ideas

I am looking for a place locally to get clean barrels for storage. There is a place that sells them in town but they want $100 for new. This seemed to dang expensive. What kind of places would sell barrels that were clean enough for long term storage and at a better price.

Try a Feed/Grain/Farm Supply Store.

Do a www search, there are many places......in Ca I used to pay $18.00 each for a "slightly" damage barrel, meaning a small dent of the paint didn't look right.

Also got me 12 Greek plastic pickle barrels for $12.00 each they have a rubber seal, used them for food, white kerosine and heating pink kerosine or as they call it stove oil.

Wow! 100 bucks is way out of line.

You might try an Army/Navy/surplus store. Also a school cafeteria or somewhere they serve a lot of .gov food, where you might be able to get them for free (or a small bribe to the barbarian invader who's in charge).

I don't know where you are, but around here they are usually in the 15-25 dollar range.

If we are talking food here than pay attention to "food grade" plastic:

I picked up some heavy gauge plastic 50 gal barrels from a car wash supply company. These have tight fitting lids held with a metal ring band w/tightener. They are used for detergents and other car wash chemicals...I bought the ones that had held powdered detergent only.

I paid $20 bucks each.

It depends upon the size of barrel you are looking for and what you are storing in it.

Also remember that the larger the barrel, the harder it will be to move around. A 55 gallon barrel drum filled with whatever will weigh a lot more than say three 15 gallon barrels.

Storage is one thing, moving it is another.

Wallew,

I thought about that today while at work. I must have walked by 300 5 gallon buckets.

The weight of a 55 gal barrel full would be difficult to negotiate. I may go with the 5 gallon bucket idea. I'm worried about squirles and rodents chewing thru them.

These were good sources guys thanks.

For $100 it better still have the oil in it.
